Unless you’ve been breathing under a rock your whole life, you’ve probably heard of beauty sleep, but you may not know why we call it beauty sleep.

Many women call sleep “beauty sleep” because during sleep our body works on healing itself and rejuvenating, which means that a good night’s sleep can actually improve your appearance and make you look like your best self!

Why Is Beauty Sleep Important?

Sleep is important for many things, including your health and mental well-being, but getting lots of sleep will also keep you looking your best, that’s why it’s called beauty sleep after all.

Many aspects of your beauty improve by a good night’s sleep, for example: during sleep, your body will repair skin, which will ultimately reduce the appearance and amount of wrinkles you have; sleep can also improve your complexion, as extra blood flow during your sleep will make your skin radiant; and getting the right amount of sleep also stops bags developing under your eyes.

So, it goes without saying that sleep is incredibly important for ensuring that you look like the best version of yourself.

How Can You Improve The Quality of Your Sleep?

We’re all on the same page now about how important a good night’s sleep is to look your best, but what can you do to improve your beauty sleep?

Block Light Out of Your Bedroom

Anyone who’s lived near a busy road will tell you how light from outside can easily keep you up at night, this is because when we see lights our brain thinks that it is still daytime and will work to keep us awake, so light pollution from the outside world can leave you struggling to sleep at night.

To fix this issue, all you need to do is to install a set of quality blinds, like day and night blinds in your windows to block that pesky light from leaking into your bedroom and allow you to catch up on your beauty sleep.

Avoid Electronic Devices Before Bed

We’ve mentioned how light can keep you awake at night, but did you know the light from the screens of your electronic devices can also keep you up at night? That’s right, the screens for our TVs, phones, and computers emit a certain type of light called “blue light”, this light can trick your brain into thinking it’s still daytime.

So, for a better night of sleep, you should look to avoid using electronics in the hour before you intend to go to bed so that the blue light does not disrupt your beauty sleep.

Get Some Exercise Before Bedtime

Another thing that can cause poor sleep is not tire enough to actually fall asleep, this is incredibly common with people who work in office jobs, as they don’t get enough exercise throughout the day, leaving them tossing and turning at night.

To overcome this and get the sleep your body needs, you should try to do some exercise throughout the day to burn off your energy, this will make it much easier to fall asleep at night.
